I’m so glad you’re here and I’m very proud to introduce you to the Derivatives Lab.
We live in the information overload era, constantly distracted and pulled in different directions, feeling like there is not enough time in a day to consume it all. Ignorance is no longer a bliss, it’s a decision. We have to be selective. You get to choose what and how to learn, and at what pace. Why not join me on this journey and replace common knowledge with unique knowledge?
This whole idea has been growing in me for quite a while now. You know what happens when you carry you dreams inside you and don’t let them see the daylight. They become stagnant, fade away with time and you end up frustrated at yourself for not following through. I know it all too well. It was time for me to unlock my entrepreneurial creativity.
What you will find on this platform is my views on various aspects of derivatives trading and beyond, from looking at specific documentation to career tips and my own unique negotiation strategies. In case you haven’t noticed already, I am positively obsessed with the ISDA master agreement, so it’s likely to be featured in many posts. What can I say, ISDA is my thing! It’s where I started my journey and where I feel I’m in the best position to offer guidance. I have spent over 10 years mastering this most frequently used trading agreement; from reviewing, (re)drafting, amending to negotiating templates and policies, including on-boarding funds and dealing with multiple anti-money laundering and know your client challenges. I gained my experience working for the sell-side and the buy-side. I believe that I can offer common-sense, straight-up approach to what is considered a complex legal agreement. I don’t purport to know it all, but I can definitely tell you what from my experience works best and where the main pitfalls are!
When I was envisioning what Derivatives Lab could be, I had this exciting idea of creating a community of like-minded people where we could all exchange thoughts and ideas and learn from each other. It seemed impossible at the time, as we all know, if there is one thing the financial services industry does not like, and more so lawyers, is lifting the veil. Yet here I am, attempting to disrupt this and debunk the myth. Before we go any further though, let’s be crystal clear about what I mean by lifting the veil. I believe that there is a need for the community that works in the financial services industry to have a voice outside the rigidity imposed by their workplaces. This is why events like industry roundtables, working groups or broker briefings are so great, they allow us to exchange know-how and learn from each other. The Derivatives Lab is about sharing ideas, experiences and lessons learnt, and not putting yourself in breach of any company’s policy.
The Derivatives Lab is all about sharing the knowledge acquired through experience, and is university- background- geography- and company- agnostic. I want to encourage openness, transparency and facilitate the sharing of information, but more importantly built a safe and thriving community. So why not join me on this journey and replace common knowledge with unique knowledge?
